This is Løkken. There’s not a lot to do here. If you like long walks on the beach, however, this is one amazing place! The wind continually changes the landscape around you and the fabulous sunsets are never boring.

5 months with OS X Lion is something else entirely….and not in a good way. Perhaps is was my own fault to update blindly. Previous iOS updates haven’t been apple worthy, so I could have known.  Well, it won’t happen again.

Just a quick list with what is wrong with OS X Lion

• Inverted scrolling - seriously, who thought of this? Why change something so fundamental without warning? It kinda makes sense on a macbook with a trackpad and all. It’s just that my iMac doesn’t have a trackpad! I guess they couldn’t have known that. It’s not like they actually build it……ow wait….they did.

• Mission Control – where is my normal, ultra responsive, Expose gone to? Ow no! It has collided with Spaces to become one big pile of accident. Say bye bye to instant app switching. Chaos and lag rule this season. Or so Cupertino thinks. You have multiple finder windows open? No problem, we’ll just stack them behind each other so you won’t have to worry which one is which. Exclusive feature from the creators of Russian Roulette.

• DVD Player – used to watching dvds on an external monitor? No more. Well, you can actually do it by setting up the external monitor as the main one. Of course you have to revert that action once you finished your movie.

• Save As – remember that essential menu item ‘save as’ that you used to create slightly modified versions of……well…..everything really. Gone! Now that screens are getting bigger and bigger, menus should be kept on a short leash.

• Icon View Control – wait, what? You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone. In this case the cute little slider in the bottom of your Finder window to control the size of the icons. It’s easy to get it back, but why is it disabled in the first place?

• Library –  the user library, you know, the one with all the cool folders with all your preferences and other useful stuff. It’s hidden by default now.

• Full Screen –  even their lousiest competitors had this feature from the beginning. Apple finally decided to add this feature and somehow messed it up. Did they actually test this stuff before adding the full screen button? On the other hand, this is the definition of FULL screen. There’s no place for anything else. Not even on an external screen. No, that would have been just too useful.

The upside? Hmmm, well, for a rip off it’s not an expensive one. And we’ll have plenty to look forward to in OS X 10.8 Felis Catus

Ook benieuwd hoe die foto’s er in het groot uitzien? Of wil je idee krijgen hoe ze bij je thuis aan de muur zouden staan? Ga dan snel even langs bij Touché. Dan kan je tussen wordfeud en een slokje Asti door, kijken naar de volgende foto’s.

Jones is hier een bewijs van. Niet een zoveelste winkelketen, maar een unieke winkel en dito collectie.

Jammer dat ik me nog niet aan de damesmode waag. Gelukkig maar dat de winkel zelf ook mooi is. Laat ik nou toevallig een camera bij me hebben…

Het is nog knap lastig om de sfeer vast te leggen zoals die bij Jones is. Dus ik zou zeggen, ga zelf een keer kijken.

It is the famous German pavilion by Mies van der Rohe. This iconic building was designed and build for the 1929 International Exposition in Barcelona. The contrast with the now slightly underwhelming ‘Catalan modernism’ is obvious. The architectural detail, for which Gaudi is often praised, isn’t lost on Mies either. Just notice how the floor tile grid matches those of the wall tiles.

Yes, it’s everywhere, the floor, the walls the benches, the ceiling. This is what one might call Architecture (definitively with a capital A)

It’s just a sneak peek of some cool photos from Barcelona. And they might just be the real modernist deal.

In photography it has several uses. HDR photography for example is a form of stacking several exposures. The same can be done with the focus.

In macro or even more in micro photography this might be essential. I made quick example with the compound eye of a fly

Notice the difference in DOF? It seems almost negligible. However, with the right technique and an endless patience I could get the whole fly in focus.

The photos are made with another stacking technique: lens stacking. It is almost exactly what you think it is. The only thing is that one of the stacked lenses is mounted reversed on the other.

The old nikkor 50mm 1.8 fits nicely on front of the tamron 90mm. And since the front element of the tamron is way back there’s no need to worry about scratches. You can also buy adapter rings to attach two lenses together. Mine is somewhere between Hong Kong and Arnhem right now.

The point being?

The whole point of lens stacking is to make micro( aka bigger than life size aka greater  than 1:1 reproduction ) photos. So you can (actually have to) get really close to your subject. The downside? A depth of field of only 1mm! Or less. And that is exactly where the focus stacking comes in handy!

My advice, start stacking!

* A group of three rifles supporting each other, butt downward and forming a cone  An orderly pile, especially one arranged in layers
